The annual Chinese Culture Night is Han Tao's largest and most exciting event. Held in the spring semester, it is a performance of Chinese drama, music and dance. In 2002, Han Tao held its third culture night. Audiences were transported to a mythical China as the folk tale of The Monkey King was brought to life.

Synopsis

The Emporer summons a Monk to retrieve the anicent scrolls for him. The Monk begins a journey that takes him into the mountains and into a cave. There, he hears a voice inside a large rock. It appears the Monkey King has been trapped inside the rock for 500 years as a punishment from Buddha. The Monk frees him. Together they begin their search for the ancient scrolls. Along the way, they meet a variety of interesting characters including the Pig King and the Sandy Monk. However, trouble occurs as the Skeleton King and the Spider Queen follow the entourage in an attempt to capture the Monk.

The Spider Queen later betrays the Skeleton King and defeats him. The Monk, the Pig King and the Sandy Monk are captured by the Queen. The Monkey King rescues them and destroys the Spider Queen, ending the evil that pursues them. The group find the ancient scrolls and returns to the palace where the Emperor rewards them. Buddha is also pleased with the Monkey King's resolve from mischief.
