The annual Chinese Culture
Night is Han Tao's largest and most exciting event. Held in the spring
semester, it is a performance of Chinese drama, music and dance. In 2002,
Han Tao held its third culture night. Audiences were transported to a
mythical China as the folk tale of The Monkey King was brought
to life.
Chinese
Culture Night 2002 - The Monkey King
Synopsis
The Emporer summons a Monk
to retrieve the anicent scrolls for him. The Monk begins a journey that
takes him into the mountains and into a cave. There, he hears a voice
inside a large rock. It appears the Monkey King has been trapped inside
the rock for 500 years as a punishment from Buddha. The Monk frees him.
Together they begin their search for the ancient scrolls. Along the
way, they meet a variety of interesting characters including the Pig
King and the Sandy Monk. However, trouble occurs as the Skeleton King
and the Spider Queen follow the entourage in an attempt to capture the
Monk.
The Spider Queen later betrays
the Skeleton King and defeats him. The Monk, the Pig King and the Sandy
Monk are captured by the Queen. The Monkey King rescues them and destroys
the Spider Queen, ending the evil that pursues them. The group find
the ancient scrolls and returns to the palace where the Emperor rewards
them. Buddha is also pleased with the Monkey King's resolve from mischief.

Coming to an
album near you....as soon as they are located. No, we're not irresponsible.
It's called unpacking after a too short summer vacation.
